The morning is covered in rain.
Cold droplets worked to wash away
The cold night painted dark blue.
I know this because I spent all night watching,
Waiting for the darkness to melt away
To be replaced by a more hopeful, pleasant hue.
I’ve been at war with myself for a while now,
For as long as I can remember, actually.
Once upon a time, I was told
You lose all the battles you choose not to pick.
So I continued this fight knowing its unsustainable
Knowing someday I’m going to hit my threshold
But today, I am victorious
Just for waking up this morning.
Death, I have fought to make it to another day
And you have not taken me yet.
I exist. I am alive. I matter.
That is not something you can take away.
